The inside scoop: Goodberry's Frozen Custard opens in November

Goodberry’s Frozen Custard is scheduled to open in November at the Morganton Park South shopping center in Southern Pines, anchored by Target.

“We’re so excited to open our first U.S. location outside of the Triangle in Moore County and look forward to being a part of its growth story,” said H.J. Brathwaite, Goodberry’s president, to Sandhills Sentinel in February. “There’s nothing like a frozen dessert to bring people together, and we love being a small part of those big memories. This is what brings us joy.”

Customers can expect Goodberry’s complete menu at the Southern Pines location, including fresh custard, cakes, pies, beverages, sundaes, floats, and more. One of Goodberry’s signature items is the Carolina Concrete, a blend of fresh frozen custard with various toppings, served so “thick and rich” it’s served upside down.

“We’re hoping to open in the second half of November,” Brathwaite said to Sandhills Sentinel on Friday.

Brathwaite clarified that Goodberry’s is far from “fast food” frozen custard.

“Those products contain corn syrup, chemical stabilizers, gums, and a lot of other things that are impossible to pronounce,” Brathwaite told Sandhills Sentinel in February. “Goodberry’s all-natural base frozen custard mix is made with only five simple fresh ingredients. It’s made the way ice cream was made before the industrialization of food processing – just like small dairy farms would make it 80 years ago. I don’t know of anyone else in the country that’s doing what we’re doing.”

To ensure the freshest Goodberry’s Frozen Custard possible, the company went so far as to build its own dairy processing plant in Wake Forest. Using state-of-the-art equipment, they mix fresh North Carolina milk and cream, delivered straight from local farms, with pure cane sugar, real honey, and eggs.

The Southern Pines location will offer indoor and outdoor seating with a complete patio area. Additionally, third-party delivery options and online ordering will be available for added convenience.
