Moore County Sheriff’s Office conducted Joint Traffic Checkpoint last night intended to keep roads safe for the community.
 
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office along with Pinehurst Police Department, Foxfire Police Department, Whispering Pines Police Department, Aberdeen Police Department, Rockingham Police Department, Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, Hoke County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol along with the BATmobile worked together on the Moore and Lee County Lines targeting negligent and distracted drivers during a traffic checkpoint.

As a result of the five hour operation, Deputies and Law Enforcement Officers issued 51 citations and made arrests including the following: 21 for driving with a revoked/no license, 10 Vehicle Inspection Violations, one for No Insurance, one Child Restraint Violation, one for Allowing an Unlicensed Person to Drive, two for Open containers, Felony Possession with the Intent to Sell/Distribute, Felony Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled-Substance, three for Simple Possession of Marijuana and five for Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia.  
 
The operation is a part of the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program which has partnered with local law enforcement agencies and state troopers using high-visibility traffic enforcement in an initiative to reduce speeding and distracted driving on North Carolina’s rural roads. In the last five years there were 57,955 crashes and 1,154 fatalities related to speeding on North Carolina highways. During the same period there were 53,313 crashes and 482 fatalities related to distracted driving.

“There are too many lives lost each year in speed- and distracted-driving-related crashes, and we are determined to change that,” said Sheriff Neil Godfrey. “These check points are just one of the ways we are working to keep our roads safe. These operations ensure people are in compliance with all safety rules and regulations as well as provide Law Enforcement with an opportunity to directly engage our public. I am grateful to all our partners and see this is a great example of teamwork intended to keep our roads safe.”
