Trespassing investigation at Brookside Park leads to arrests

The Southern Pines Police Department announced the arrest of Kovacs Troutman, 40, of Southern Pines, and Jermaine Quick, 44, of Southern Pines.

On Oct. 9, members of the Southern Pines Police Department’s directed patrol unit conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of South Mechanic Street to conduct a trespassing investigation.

The driver, Jermaine Quick, and passenger, Kovacs Troutman, were observed leaving the Brookside Park Apartments, where they had both been previously banned from the property.

Located during the investigation were suspected 3.10 grams of cocaine, .20 grams of marijuana, one Kimber handgun and assorted items of drug paraphernalia.

Troutman was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed firearm, second-degree trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia. Troutman appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center with no bond.

Quick was charged with possession of firearm by felon, carrying a concealed firearm, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree trespassing and driving while license suspended. Quick appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center with no bond.

Both are due in court on Nov. 2 and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
