teens arrested drug car chase

Southern Pines Police arrested two teens on several drug charges following a car chase early Saturday morning.

Arrested were Zion Micah Bowens, 19, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Trevel Semaj Wade, 18, of Aberdeen, said Southern Pines Police Department in a statement.

Just after midnight, authorities conducted a traffic stop on Morganton Road; however, the driver of the car refused to stop and “engaged officers in a pursuit with the vehicle.”

The chase continued for several blocks when the driver stopped on West Shibui Avenue. While the car was beginning to pull over, “officers observed the passenger, Trevel Semaj Wade, throw several items from the window of the vehicle into a wooded area.”

Authorities searched the area and found marijuana and a Glock 17, 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended 30 round magazine.

Police searched the vehicle and recovered additional amounts of marijuana, THC wax, drug packaging equipment and a loaded semi-automatic pistol magazine for a 9mm Glock 17 firearm.

Bowens was charged with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of THC wax, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,500.

Wade was arrested for felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of THC wax, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was placed under a $10,000 bond.

Wade was recently arrested by Southern Pines Police at the beginning of the month for illegally possessing a stolen Glock, 9mm semi-automatic pistol along with several other felony narcotics charges. He was placed under a $200,000 secured bond prior to his release.

“The Southern Pines Police Department will be working with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) conducting an additional investigation involving the recovered firearm and additional charges may follow upon the conclusion of this investigation,” said the police department.

Both suspects are due in court on July 16 and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
