Vass man charged with forcible rape of juvenile

A man from Vass was arrested on sexual assault charges to include forcible rape of a juvenile after an investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department received a report of a sexual assault involving a juvenile that occurred in the Vass area on January 12.

“After a serious and complex investigation that included both forensic and digital evidence examination and analysis, probable cause was established which enabled us to make an arrest,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a news release.

Jackson Smith,18, was arrested Monday morning on three charges and placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. He was charged with one count of first-degree forcible rape, one count of statutory rape of child under fifteen, and one count of sexual battery.

The suspect is due in court on June 1 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
