The suspect accused of assaulting a man in Westmoore on Monday was apprehended.
Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said Travis Pierce was taken into custody on Thursday following the execution of a search warrant at a home in Nothern Moore County.
A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition at UNC Hospitals after sustaining severe burns during the assault where he was left at the Dollar General Monday night.
Witnesses reported hearing a person in a vehicle yelling from the car before they drove off and left the victim in the parking lot. The victim then reportedly entered the Dollar General in search of help before exiting the store again.Â
“Investigators have uncovered evidence that Pierce deliberately threw a flammable substance on the victim and ignited the substance, causing significant injury,” said Fields in a news release.
Pierce has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, malicious use of an incendiary material to cause injury, and burning of personal property.
He remains in the Moore County Detention Center under no bond.
