Man arrested for disclosure of private images, cyberstalking after 5-year investigation

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis said 45-year-old Michael Cunningham of Spring Lake is facing charges of felony disclosing private images and cyberstalking after being apprehended five years later following an investigation that began in Aberdeen.

Officers responded to a business in the area of Taylor Street and Anderson Street on Oct. 12, 2019, about reports of harassment, cyberstalking and possible extortion.

“Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who advised a male she was previously in a relationship with was stalking her, via electronic communications,” said Chavis. “She also told officers that personal images were being sent without her knowledge or consent. After reviewing all available evidence and obtaining statements, officers were able to confirm the accusations against Cunningham. Warrants were obtained on Cunningham for Felony Disclosure of Private Images and Cyberstalking.”

Authorities attempted to locate Cunningham over the years. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office finally apprehended him in their jurisdiction on Jan. 2. A Northampton County magistrate gave him a $15,000 unsecured bond.
