Flyers Triumph Over Central Carolina

The Sandhills Flyers started the new year strong with a 99-83 road victory over Central Carolina Community College on Jan. 3.

The team showcased a balanced offensive attack led by Kendall Smith, who contributed 24 points, including four three-pointers and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Antoine Piper dominated the paint with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Damien Robinson added another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Flyers’ relentless defense forced 13 turnovers, with Isaiah Upchurch grabbing two steals and scoring 11 points.

Sandhills controlled the boards, out-rebounding their opponent 50-42, which proved key in securing the win.

Setback Against Wake Tech

The Flyers faced a tougher challenge on Jan. 4, falling 102-72 to Wake Technical Community College.

Despite the loss, Mike Fee delivered an impressive performance, scoring a team-high 18 points on 50% shooting. Isaiah Upchurch also stepped up, contributing 15 points, including three three-pointers. Damien Robinson provided a strong presence in the post with 12 points and seven rebounds.

However, Sandhills struggled to contain Wake Tech’s efficient offense, which shot 50% from the field and outscored the Flyers 63-33 in the second half.
