Wind blows motorcyclist off road in Southern Pines

A motorcyclist was reportedly blown off of U.S.1 at the Midland Road offramp in Southern Pines on Saturday due to excessive winds in the area. The call came in at approximately 2:35 p.m.

According to radio traffic and the initial call to 911, emergency responders were alerted that a motorcyclist, “had just tumbled down the ramp after being blown off the road.”

Emergency responders arrived to find the motorcyclist and his motorcycle at the bottom left side of the ramp. Upon their arrival they found that the motorcyclist was up and walking around. He was subsequently evaluated by EMS.

Debris had scattered down the left side of the ramp, and gas had leaked from the motorcycle. The left lane of the off-bound ramp was shut down while the scene was investigated and debris was removed.

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating the crash. It is still under investigation at this time.

The Southern Pines Fire & Rescue Department and Moore County EMS also responded to the scene.
