Several injured in two separate crashes Thursday

Thursday night was busy for first responders across Moore County as two separate crashes within an hour of each other injured several people.

The first wreck happened at the intersection of Highway 211 and Highway 73 in West End shortly before 7 p.m. According to the investigating trooper, a Toyota sedan attempted to turn left from Highway 211 to Highway 73 into the path of a Chevy pickup truck.

A female from the Chevy was airlifted by AirLife North Carolina to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was cited for failure to yield, with more charges possible.

Highway 73 was closed between Highway 211 and Knox Lane, and one lane of Highway 211 was closed during the investigation.

Shortly after AirLife took off from the landing zone behind West End Fire Department, 9-1-1 received calls regarding a crash at the intersection of Highway 24/27 and Pine Grove Church Road near Robbins.

First responders arrived at the scene just after 7:30 p.m. to two cars with heavy damage. A Kia and a Honda Accord were in a tree line off the road.

Each vehicle had multiple occupants, including an infant in the Kia, in which all were transported to a hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious. An occupant of the Kia had to be flown by UNC Carolina Air Care to a trauma center.

N.C. Highway Patrol was unable to determine at the scene what caused the crash. Sandhills Sentinel reached out to troopers Friday morning for an update. According to troopers, the driver of the Kia was traveling north on Big Oak Church Road and attempted to cross over Highway 24/27, when it was T-boned by the Honda traveling west on Highway 24/27. The driver of the Kia was cited for failure to yield.

The highway was reduced to one lane while first responders worked to clear the scene.
