Local fishermen in Vass were surprised to find a frag grenade Monday morning.
Crains Creek Fire Department announced on their social media page the magnet fishermen found the grenade around 10 a.m., and the “grenade was rusted and the firing pin missing.”
The grenade was discovered close to the bridge on Morrison Bridge Road and Riverview Drive.
Fort Bragg Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians determined it was unsafe to transport the grenade to the military post for detonation, so they detonated it in nearby woods.
Crains Creek Fire Department helped closed the road and reroute motorists while the technicians detonated the grenade.
