Cedric Hinton retires from Walmart

An Aberdeen native retired from Walmart on May 12 at the age of 59. Cedric Hinton worked at the Aberdeen store since 1994 for a total of 28 years.

Hinton said he helped Walmart in the shipping department. He unloaded pallets, operated a pallet jack, and worked with the baling machine. He also assisted with carry-outs and gathering carts.

He also worked in produce for three years alongside Ressie Justice.

“I’ve known him his entire life,” Justice said. “He is determined. Shows that anyone with a handicap there’s no excuse. Nothing stops him. He is a living legend.”

Hinton has Cerebral Palsy and is now using a cane.

He said his favorite position at Walmart was as a greeter.

“I love people,” Hinton said.

He said his hardest work was when he got older.

“It was a challenge,” Hinton said.

Jobs prior to Walmart include working in a factory, a textile mill, for private individuals, at the movie theater, and for an Aberdeen paint store.

Hinton is surrounded by family and said he looks forward to going to his favorite place — the beach.

He also said he is thinking about getting a pet cat.

“The first day [of retirement] I rested,” Hinton said.
