Chamber hosting community conversation on childcare, economy

The Moore County Chamber of Commerce unveiled a local effort to increase the total number of businesses and non-profits participating in the Family Forward NC Certification, a strategic initiative focused on creating a more family-friendly community through policy alignment, employer engagement, and workforce development. This project is in partnership with Moore County Economic Development Partnership, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Southern Pines Convention and Visitors Bureau and Partners for Children and Families.

As a designated Family Forward NC Certified Community Candidate, Moore County is committed to identifying and expanding policies that support working families and drive economic growth, said the Chamber in a news advisory. The Family Forward NC Certification serves as a roadmap to help local businesses and stakeholders implement the best practices that promote work-life balance, childcare accessibility, and flexible workplace culture.

“By supporting family-friendly workplace policies, we’re not only enhancing employee retention and productivity, but we’re also making Moore County more competitive and attractive for businesses and families alike,” said Linda Parsons, president and CEO of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.

The Family Forward NC outlines collaborative strategies including:

*Educating employers on benefits of family-friendly practices

*Highlighting local success stories to inspire adoption

*Providing resources and technical assistance for policy implementation

“With over 70 pieces of state legislation filed around childcare in 2025, the timing of this plan is critical,” said the advisory. “The Chamber’s leadership, in collaboration with partners like Family Forward NC, is helping ensure Moore County stays ahead of the curve in building a sustainable economy.  Greensboro, NC has been designated as the first Family Friendly NC Community.  Like Greensboro, Moore County wants to attract and retain the best employees, and they want those employees to be happy and healthy. The goal of this campaign is to increase employers’ participation and become Family Friendly NC Certified. Currently, Sandhills Community College, First Bank, R.Riveter and Partners for Children and Families are certified employers in Moore County.  Several others are currently in the process of becoming certified.”
