Child custody dispute ends in shootout

A child custody dispute ended in a shootout between at least two people in Aberdeen on Victory Lane just before noon on Christmas Eve. It’s unclear if the child was at the scene of the shooting.

Aberdeen Police Operations Captain Shannon Darling told Sandhills Sentinel on the scene that one of the shooters was shot in the back with a shotgun and transported to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Another shooter is at large. Police said the shooting was an isolated incident.

Two houses were struck with bullets, and shell casings were scattered in the yard and street. Officials placed evidence markers at 18 shotgun and handgun shell casings.

Police recovered a handgun used by one of the shooters a block away from the scene.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
