A single-vehicle crash near Carthage sent a child and his father to the hospital Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred in the 500 block of McCrimmon Road just past Emmanuel Baptist Church.
A Toyota Camry traveling north on McCrimmon Road ran off the road, struck a power pole, and crashed head-on into a tree. The crash left the power pole broken in half with lines down across the road, and the vehicle with extensive front-end damage.
According to officials on scene, the mother came and took the child to a nearby EMS station, but the unit had already been dispatched and was on the way to the accident scene, so the mother took the child to nearby Farm Life Elementary School instead.
Air care was dispatched to the school but later canceled, and EMS transported the child to Moore Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown as of this report.
The father was transported by EMS from the accident scene to Moore Regional Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries.
McCrimmon Road was shut down while crews worked the scene.
Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash, and according to them, speed was a factor.
Duke Energy was also on scene making necessary repairs.
Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, NC Highway Patrol and Duke Energy.
Whispering Pines Fire Department assisted with setting up the landing zone at Farm Life Elementary School.
