Penick Village Retirement Community was locked down Sunday morning while Southern Pines Police conducted a death investigation.
Southern Pines Police Captain Charles Campbell said the investigation is ongoing and could not provide any details other than they are working closely with Penick Village and will be attending the facility’s Town Hall Meeting Monday.
“An incident occurred this morning involving a resident of our assisted living community,” said Penick Village on their website. “There are no words to express the heartbreak over this incident. We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the loved ones of the resident involved. We ask everyone to join us in praying for the family and all of the local authorities and first responders who have responded to this matter. Please be assured that we will continue to take the necessary steps to secure the safety and well being of those we have the privilege to serve as well as our valued staff.”
Penick Village is located on E. Rhode Island Avenue.
