After an already extremely busy day with several vehicle collisions in Moore County, another occurred Monday evening in Cameron.
A deputy with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office was traveling along N.C. 24-27 just after 6:30 p.m. when he approached a collision at the Grady Road and Bryant Road intersection.
After finding both passengers of one of the involved vehicles, a Chevrolet Spark, to be pinned in, the deputy immediately reported the crash to dispatch and requested responses from fire and EMS.
According to officials, the Chevrolet driver ran through a stop sign coming off Grady Road while attempting to continue north onto Bryant Road. The male driver pulled out into the path of a Jeep traveling west toward Carthage.
The collision caused the Chevrolet to spin around off the roadway and into a ditch. The Jeep spun around and stopped along the shoulder of the road.
Firefighters had to cut off the passenger door of the Chevrolet to free the passengers. They were transported to a landing zone established a short distance from the crash scene and were airlifted to a trauma center in two separate medevac helicopters.
The Chevrolet driver refused treatment at the scene, and the Jeep driver did not require transport.
The Chevrolet suffered extensive damage, largely to the passenger side. The Jeep sustained moderate front-end damage due to the impact of the crash.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was on the scene investigating the crash. Crews shut down the intersection while they worked the scene, and the vehicles were removed.
A dog in the Chevrolet fled the scene and is currently unaccounted for.
Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
