A driver fled on foot after crashing his vehicle just outside of Vass city limits Saturday afternoon. The single-vehicle crash happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Vass-Carthage Road and Sandy Oak Road.
According to authorities on scene, the man was driving a Honda Passport traveling west towards Carthage when he ran off the right side of the road into the wood line.
The vehicle kept traveling through the thick brush and small trees before slamming into a group of small trees just off the road and coming to a stop.
The Honda SUV sustained heavy damage, and there was evidence inside the vehicle that showed the driver may have been injured.
About an hour after the crash authorities were able to take the driver, from Candor, into custody on Sandy Oak Road. According to to N.C. Highway Patrol, the man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired.
Units from the Whispering Pines Police Department, Vass Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol all assisted in searching for the driver before he was located.
Also responding to the crash were Cypress Pointe Fire Department and Moore County EMS.
