The Sandhills Community College Jazz Band, the “Sound of Swing in the Sandhills,” has been entertaining audiences with classic swing, jazz, and contemporary favorites for more than 58 years.
Join the band on Monday, November 9, for “Up and Down Broadway,” an evening featuring some of Broadway’s most memorable jazz and swing favorites.
As a special bonus, the Union Pines High School Jazz Band, led by Rob Hill, will open the evening at 6:00 p.m. The SCC Jazz Band will perform from 6:30–8:00 p.m.
The program will include Jerome Kern’s “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man,” Cole Porter’s “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To,” Richard Rodgers’ “Lover,” Sigmund Romberg’s “Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Somewhere,” and other Broadway favorites.
The SCC Jazz Band is led by Dr. Larry Arnold, Professor Emeritus at UNC Pembroke and a longtime Aberdeen resident. The band features many talented local musicians, including Chris Dunn, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Moore County; Rev. Dr. Paul Murphy of Southern Pines; Rob Hill, Music Director at Union Pines High School and former director of the SCC Jazz Band; and Larry Wilson, who has performed with the band for more than 50 years.
