Heroes help save cat in Aberdeen

A group of local heroes successfully removed a fish hook with a lure from a cat’s mouth.

Angie McKew, a Realtor with Sandhill Realty, was recently showing a house in Aberdeen near Crest Drive and 1st Street when her clients noticed a cat running through the yard with a fish hook attached to its mouth.

After several attempts to coax the cat, the client’s son-in-law, who is a member of the military, was able to pick it up and wrap it in his shirt.

The Aberdeen Police Department was contacted for assistance. An officer and the man tried to remove the hook without any tools. After multiple attempts, the fire department was called to the scene with the necessary equipment to safely extract the hook from the cat’s mouth.

“It was definitely one of those “Mayberry” moments where all our local heroes were involved, from the military and local Aberdeen police and fire departments,” said McKew. “It certainly made an impression on my clients, who exclaimed, ‘This is just like Mayberry! Who wouldn’t want to live in such a sweet town with wonderful local officials all ready to help their neighbors and even a sweet little cat?’”
