Like most events, the 2020 Carthage Buggy Festival was canceled due to COVID-19. As restrictions are being lifted in Moore County, the 32nd Annual Carthage Buggy Festival resumed on Saturday. The festival is held annually on Mother’s Day weekend.
According to the Carthage Buggy Festival’s website, “The Buggy Festival is held each year to commemorate the famous Tyson and Jones Buggy Factory that, from the mid-1800’s to the 1920’s, produced the carriages that were essential to life in rural North Carolina.”

Sue Richardson, a game vendor from Mint Hill N.C., told Sandhills Sentinel, “We love coming every year. We love the area and the history of this town. We hated that last year was canceled, but we were very excited when heard that the event was back on this year. I knew we had to come.”Â
Local businesses and vendors lined their tents around the courthouse square and down the streets. Buggies and tractors lined the parking lot at the Tyson and Jones mural. A large car show took the courthouse parking lots and lined Dowd Street. Bands played live music from the courthouse steps.Â

Thousands of residents from across the county and state came out to enjoy the shops, rides, food and music. New to Moore County, the Hernandez family said, “We have been living here for six months and heard about the festival and decided to get out on a beautiful day and see what it was about. We are glad we did; we have enjoyed the shops and the food. The kids have enjoyed the rides. We will be back next year.”
