Mobile home destroyed in afternoon fire

A mobile home in eastern Moore County was destroyed in a fire Monday. Emergency units were dispatched to the blaze on Kelly Drive in Cameron just before 2 p.m. The first arriving units advised heavy fire was showing from the structure as well as a pump house on fire.

An attack on the blaze immediately began, but the home was a total loss.

According to Crains Creek Fire Chief Kenny Mackey, the homeowner had been tending to an outside fire when it got out of control and caught the mobile home on fire.

The Moore County Fire Marshal was on scene investigating the fire with the assistance of N.C. Forestry Service.

Red Cross is assisting the residents.

Responding to the scene were Crains Creek Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Spout Springs Fire Department, Fort Bragg Fire Department, Spring Lake Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. Forestry Service.
