Motorcyclist airlifted after Aberdeen collision

A motorcyclist was airlifted on Friday afternoon after a collision near Aberdeen Lake on U.S. 1. Shortly before 5:00 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a collision near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Lakeshore Drive and found that a motorcycle had struck a Kia passenger car that had turned into its path.

According to Aberdeen Police, the driver of the Kia attempted to make a lefthand turn, but the driver did not see the motorcyclist and turned in front of him. As a result, the motorcycle slammed into the front end of the Kia, injuring the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist’s injuries were not life-threatening but did require a higher level of care. An ambulance transported the motorcyclist to Aberdeen Fire Station 42 on Highway 211, which was serving as the base for a UNC Tarheel 2 helicopter, where he was then airlifted to an area trauma center.

The occupants of the Kia were reportedly uninjured.
