Obituary for Harris Willis Clark Jr. of Aberdeen

Harris Willis Clark Jr., of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully Friday, April 12, 2024, at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on April 17th  at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Aberdeen with Pastor David Priddy officiating. The interment will be held at Old Bethesda Cemetery.

Born in Jackson Springs to the late Harris Willis Clark, Sr. and Gladys Fox Clark, he grew up there and graduated from West End High School. Willis was an active member of Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church and later, after relocating to Aberdeen, served as a deacon and elder in Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Willis graduated from Wake Forest University and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He was a member of Sigma Pi Social Fraternity. A veteran of the USMC, he served in the Vietnam conflict.

His career in textiles as a claims manager with J P Stevens Carpets in Aberdeen and Barwick Carpets in Lafayette, Georgia gave him the opportunity to travel and meet people. Always caring, friendly and wearing a smile, Willis endeared himself to all who knew him. He also enjoyed working part-time at Boles Funeral Home, driving, greeting, and helping people. After his retirement he worked for Moore County Transportation Services.

Willis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drag racing. He spent many enjoyable times riding his Harley motorcycle on trips with members of the Sandhills HOG Chapter.

Mr. Clark is survived by a daughter, Nicole “Nikki” Williams (Jamie) of Carthage; granddaughter Paityn Williams; grandson Paxton Williams; stepsons Michael, Terry and Brent Hobgood; sisters Marie Clark Monroe (JD), Elizabeth Clark Barringer both of Carthage and many friends and relatives. Willis is also survived by his beloved dog Pete, who was his constant companion.
