obituary Kobe Jay Cooper

Kobe Jay Cooper, 19, of Aberdeen, passed on Friday, June 19, 2020. 

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, June, 24th 2020 at Whitehead Funeral Services and Cremation in Carthage, Mississippi. A private family committal will be held in the New Hymn Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinola, Mississippi.

Kobe was born July 19, 2000 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a 2018 graduate of the Leake Central High School in Carthage, Mississippi where he played football and was a member of the gifted class. After graduation, he attended summer and fall session at Mississippi Valley State University before transferring to Sandhills Community College. His plans were to later transfer to NC State to finish his schooling and later after graduating pursue a job as a sports coach.  He was an avid chess player, video gamer, collector of shoes, enjoyed a good hamburger, sports enthusiast, lover of his Uncle Silas’ car collection, and could tell you every sport statistic no matter which sport it was and he was a believer in God.  He loved the NBA and was a huge New Orleans Saints fan. He was funny, caring, never met a stranger and the most loving friend, son, brother, nephew, and grandson. 

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Kimsey Bailey of Aberdeen; his sister, Kimsey Cooper of Aberdeen; grandmother, Helen McIntosh O’Neal of Carthage, MS; four uncles, Silas O’Neal, Jr. of Alexandria, LA; Byron O’Neal of Alexandria, LA; Mark Bailey and wife Rosa of Cleveland, OH; Tyrone Bailey and wife Monteager of Atlanta, Ga; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Silas O’Neal, Sr. 

Memorials may be made in his name to a scholarship fund that will be established at the Leake Central High School at a later date.
