Theodore Atwood, 92 of West End, passed away on June 1, 2018 after a short illness. 

Born on November 7, 1925 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Raymond and Pauline Atwood. 

Theodore was a 1949 graduate from MIT. After graduation he worked for Moore-McCormack Steam Ship Company and United Fruit Company in New York. He also worked on the S.S Steel Admiral where he traveled around the world on a ship with intervals of shore time working as a port engineer. From 1960 until his retirement in 1993 he worked with Allied Chemical Company through which he held a number of patents. Ted was a lifetime member of ASHRAE, and a member of Mensa. After retiring he and his wife made their home in West End North Carolina where he regularly won the The Pilot’s weekly limerick contest. Ted was an avid reader of American history, he was always upbeat and positive and had a great love of the water, sailing, classical music and the Boston Red Sox. His favorite times were those spent with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Carol Atwood in 1999; three sisters and one brother.

He is survived by three children, Sterling “Skip” Atwood, Susan Elaine Wojciechowski and her husband, P. Stephen, and Alan Matthew Atwood and his wife Brenda Baker Atwood; two sisters, Pauline “Polly” Weaver and Roselle “Sally” Milne; also survived by his grandchildren; Thomas Sterling Atwood, Caroline Atwood Brode and her husband Capt. Mike Brode, Rachel Atwood Lynch and her husband Brendon Joseph Lynch, and Abigail Baker Atwood.

A Celebration of Ted’s life is planned for a later date.
