Obituary for Thomas Fairley Murray, Sr. of Pinehurst

Thomas Fairley Murray, Sr., 85, of Pinehurst, NC passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Reid Heart Center FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

He was born in Wagram, NC to the late Hunter and Myrtle Ingram Murray.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathy McGuire Murray; children, Jan Murray Spivey (Walter), Thomas Fairley Murray, Jr (Melissa), Josh Murray (Lisa) and Theresa Forbis (Billy); grandchildren, Reid Spivey (Candis), Paige Spivey Paris (AJ), Evan Spivey, Luke Forbis (Court), Matt Forbis, Savannah Strickland, Marissa Pittman, and  Kyleigh Murray; great-grandchildren, Parker Paris, Rilan Geraghty, Roby Dean Forbis, Alina Pittman, and Hunter Pittman; many other nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Braxton Murray (his wife Beverly survives him) and loving aunt Mary Ella Ingram “Lolla.”   

Thomas was a car enthusiast and the past president of the Sandhills Classic Street Rod Association.  During his working career he was a Human Resources Manager at Waverly Mills and founding owner and operator of Tom-Kat Embroidery with his wife Kathy. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was a loyal supporter of Sandhills Teen Challenge. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387.
