Leroy Alexander Snipes, Sr., 95, a lifelong Niagara resident, went home to his Lord on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Visitation will be at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. His funeral will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2237 Camp Easter Rd. , Carthage, on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Southern Pines.
Leroy was the son of the late J.V. and Mary Morgan Snipes. He was predeceased by his wife, Gay Snipes; daughter, Carolyn Frye; brother, Robert Snipes; and sister, Gladys Myers.
Leroy was a graduate of Southern Pines High School, Class of 1939. He worked in the community for years as a dairyman, delivering milk to many families and businesses until his retirement in 1986.
He was a proud resident of the Niagara community. To many people, he had the “unofficial” title as Mayor, but to him, he just wanted to be remembered as being a good friend and neighbor.
He is survived by his children, Debi Ring (husband, Dennis) and Roy Snipes (wife, Sue) of Southern Pines; sisters, Jane Wilken of Thornton, Illinois, and Evelyn Yonts of Niagara. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Lindsey, Jeremy, Kelsey and Corey.
