Aberdeen man facing heroin, fentanyl charges after traffic stop

An Aberdeen man is facing multiple felony drug charges after authorities said laboratory testing confirmed heroin and fentanyl were seized during a traffic stop last year.

Aberdeen police said officers stopped a vehicle driven by William Arnold, 42, of Aberdeen, on Oct. 7, 2025, for an equipment violation.

During the stop, officers learned Arnold had two outstanding failure-to-appear warrants out of Moore County and placed him under arrest, according to the Aberdeen Police Department. While searching Arnold, officers located drug paraphernalia on his person.

Police said officers also observed a pipe with burned residue in plain view inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional paraphernalia and two bags containing suspected narcotics.

Arnold was arrested at the time on the outstanding warrants and for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspected narcotics were submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Lab for testing.

On April 24, police said the lab confirmed the substances were heroin and two forms of fentanyl.

Officers later obtained additional warrants charging Arnold with two counts of felony possession of heroin and felony possession of fentanyl.

Arnold was located in Aberdeen on April 26 and taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he was held without bond due to conditions of pretrial release.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
