One airlifted after crash in Pinehurst

One person was airlifted after a crash that shut down Highway 15-501 in Pinehurst on Wednesday morning.

Pinehurst Police tell Sandhills Sentinel the collision happened when a Ford F-350 traveling north on Highway 15-501 slammed into the driver side of a Toyota RAV4. That vehicle was turning left onto the highway from Juniper Creek Blvd. Officials said they were unable to determine which vehicle had the green light at the time of the incident.

The driver of the RAV4 was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone, where she was airlifted to a trauma center.

Highway 15-501 was shut down in both directions for approximately an hour while the scene was investigated and cleared.
