One person was arrested, one person was airlifted, and three others were transported to the hospital via ambulance following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Bethesda Avenue and Campbell Street in Aberdeen Monday evening.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. when an SUV slammed into a Honda sedan attempting to make a turn. Emergency crews arrived to find the SUV on its roof and the Honda off the roadway with extensive damage to the front and driver’s side.
According to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis, witnesses reported that the SUV had been driving aggressively, weaving in and out of traffic and passing other vehicles shortly before the crash. The SUV reportedly swerved to the right at the intersection and slammed into the Honda.
The SUV’s driver allegedly became combative at the scene, prompting officers to deploy a taser before placing the individual in handcuffs and taking him into custody.

The driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from a landing zone established at nearby Bethesda Cemetery to a trauma center. Three passengers from the overturned SUV were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to Moore Regional Hospital under the supervision of law enforcement.Â
Charges are pending, and no further details have been disclosed at this time. The Aberdeen Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
