A four-vehicle collision injured one person and closed a section of N.C. Highway 22 near Carthage on Wednesday morning.
First responders were dispatched to Hwy 22 at River Ridge Lane shortly after 9 a.m. They arrived at the scene of a Hyundai Elantra with heavy damage in the middle of the road and a Subaru with heavy damage off the shoulder of the road. A Jeep Compass and an Acura had front-end damage.
Troopers say the crash happened when the driver of the Elantra lost control, crossed the centerline and sideswiped the Subaru. The impact caused the Elantra to spin around, and it then T-boned on the passenger side by the Compass. The Acura was unable to stop before hitting the Jeep.
The driver of the Elantra was transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. No other injuries were reported at the scene, including two dogs in the Subaru.
Firefighters from Carthage Fire & Rescue and Southern Pines Fire & Rescue assisted Moore County EMS and N.C. Highway Patrol at the scene.
