A collision on U.S. Highway 1 just south of Pinebluff left three people injured—two of whom were airlifted in serious condition—on Saturday night. The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Park Avenue and resulted in an extended highway closure and a landing zone being established nearby.
Authorities told Sandhills Sentinel that the collision happened when a Chevy Suburban T-boned a Toyota truck. The high-impact crash sent both vehicles off the roadway, with the truck careening into the woodline. Both vehicles sustained extreme damage.
The Toyota sustained heavy damage and stopped in the wood line.
The driver of the Toyota truck was trapped in the vehicle, and firefighters had to work carefully to safely extricate him from the wreckage.
According to authorities at the scene, the driver and passenger of the Suburban were seriously injured and transported to the Pinebluff ball field, where two medical helicopters landed to airlift them to a trauma center.
The driver of the truck was transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
U.S. Highway 1 was closed for an extended period while emergency crews responded.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
Responding units included Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Pinebluff Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
