Get your free File of Life packet from Aberdeen Fire Department

The Aberdeen Fire Department is offering residents a free File of Life packet.

The File of Life is a packet designed to provide emergency responders with critical medical information when you may be unable to communicate, said the Town of Aberdeen on its website. Each packet includes a door decal, a medical information card, and a red vinyl cardholder.

Residents are encouraged to complete the card with important details such as medical conditions, medications, allergies, recent surgeries, and emergency contacts. Once completed, the card should be placed in the red holder and kept on your refrigerator door, while the decal should be placed on the main entry door to alert responders that this information is available inside. Each individual in the home with medical or physical conditions should have their own File of Life.

In an emergency situation, every second matters. If a person is unconscious or unable to speak, responders must make quick decisions about care. The File of Life ensures they have immediate access to accurate information, allowing them to provide safer and more effective treatment while also notifying family members or caregivers as quickly as possible.

The File of Life packet is available free of charge to all residents. To request a packet for yourself or a loved one, please contact the Aberdeen Fire Department at 910-944-7888 or stop by the station located at 800 Holly Street.

If you live outside of Aberdeen, please check with your local fire department to see if they offer this program.
