A woman was airlifted in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Halloween night in Southern Pines. The incident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Council Way just before 9 p.m.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the woman reportedly stepped into oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle. When crews arrived, they found her lying in the roadway with serious injuries.
A medical helicopter, UNC Tar Heel 2, landed at Memorial Park ballfield to transport her to a trauma center.
Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Public Safety, and the Southern Pines Police Department responded to the scene.
Southbound lanes of U.S. 1 remained closed for a period while police investigated the circumstances surrounding the accident. No further details were available as the investigation is ongoing.
