A single-vehicle crash on Tuesday night shut down a quiet back road in Cameron and injured one person. The crash occurred in the 700 block of Atkins Road, just north of Kennerly Lane, around 9 p.m.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which was on the scene investigating, a Mercury passenger car traveling south ran off the shoulder, overcorrected, and skidded into a ditch, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its roof.
The driver, who was reportedly intoxicated according to authorities, was not injured. However, the passenger, the only other occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
As a precaution, air care was initially called, but it was unavailable due to weather conditions.
Atkins Road was briefly shut down, and then one lane was reopened as crews worked the scene and removed the vehicle.
Responding units included the Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
