A single-vehicle crash north of Carthage slowed down travel for Thanksgiving Day commuters. The crash happened on U.S. 15-501 in the area of Kings Lane just before 2 p.m.
According to authorities on scene, the Chevrolet truck was traveling north when the driver said she had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of her that had slowed down.
When she slammed on the brakes, her truck slid a short distance before skidding off the road, flipping over, and coming to a stop on its driver’s side at the bottom of a small embankment.
It was initially thought that the woman was pinned inside, so a second rescue was dispatched out of the Cypress Pointe Fire Department, but they were later cancelled once emergency units arrived on scene and were able to free her from the truck.
She did not appear to be injured and was alert and walking around.
After EMS evaluated her, she was not transported to the hospital.
One lane of U.S. 15-501 was shut down while crews worked the scene, and the vehicle was removed.
N.C. Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.
Responding units were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol.
