Fire destroys Glendon home

A structure fire destroyed a small Glendon home late Tuesday morning on Street Place Rd. after a passerby reportedly called in the fire.

The caller reported a fully involved structure fire with heavy smoke visible from the roadway. At the time of the call, it was unclear whether anyone was inside the home.

Carthage fire units reported seeing heavy smoke in the area as they were en route. Fire crews arriving on the scene found the roof had already been damaged, and the advancing fire threatened several nearby vehicles.

Fire officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. Family members at the scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the sole occupant of the home was at work when the fire broke out.

Due to limited water access, three tanker trucks were dispatched to supply fire engines throughout the response. Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the flames and to protect nearby properties due to dry conditions and wind.

Despite a rapid response, the home was completely lost.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Family members said they are contacting the American Red Cross to assist the displaced homeowner with temporary housing and other immediate needs.
