Sandhills PRIDE is accepting applications for its 2021 scholarship. The scholarship is dedicated to assisting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender queer, and LGBTQ+ allied students in furthering their educations to become successful, productive adults. The scholarship is funded by individual donations and Sandhills PRIDE fundraisers.
“Our scholarship program celebrates incredible young LGBTQ+ advocates across the Sandhills,” says Michael Bleggi, Executive Director of Sandhills PRIDE. “These students exemplify some of the best future leaders in our community through both their academic merits and community aid.”
Former scholarship recipient Madelaine Bradley also has this to say about the scholarship program: “The Sandhills Pride Scholarship has not only provided me with $2,500 that went towards my college tuition, but it also provided a sense of achievement and recognition for the work that I have done for the LGBTQ+ Community.”
A total of up to $10,000 will be awarded in Sandhills PRIDE Scholarships in 2021. Up to four scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each will be available for students of any North Carolina accredited public or private high school in the Sandhills region. The Sandhills region includes Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Montgomery, Richmond, and Scotland counties of North Carolina. Scholarship funds must be used for educational expenses. Awards will be distributed to the college, university, or vocational school upon receipt of a letter of acceptance and verification of enrollment.
Students can view the eligibility requirements and download a copy of the scholarship application on the Sandhills PRIDE website https://www.sandhillspride.org/ — or they can reach out to their school’s counselor or scholarship coordinator. A complete scholarship application package, including recommendations, must be received by Sandhills PRIDE’s Scholarship Committee no later than March 16.
