A fire broke out at a home in the 100 block of Tarry Church Road in Star shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, resulting in the death of several pets.
Motorists reported seeing heavy smoke coming from a house as they drove by.
Authorities say no one was home at the time, but there was a significant loss of pets. Two huskies were lost in the fire, as well as multiple cats and kittens. One rescued kitten was taken to a veterinarian’s office. Two cats are unaccounted for.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County EMS, Robbins Fire Department, Westmoore Fire Department, Biscoe Fire Department, and Moore County Public Safety were on the scene.
