Southern Middle student wins first place in leadership and skills conference

Southern Middle School student Rollins Rodriguez recently took first place in the SkillsUSA Creed Event for middle school at the 2021 SkillsUSA North Carolina Leadership and Skills Conference.

This was the first-ever virtual conference, and students had to follow specific criteria for each event. Every participant had to take a qualifier test and prepare a resume to be able to compete.

Rollins put in many hours of his personal time after school to prepare for the conference. He worked closely with his advisor, Ms. Kay Rodriguez, to problem solve issues and prepare for the qualifier test. He exhibits motivation and dedication to any task he undertakes.

To compete in the event, Rollins had to memorize the SkillsUSA Creed and create a video reciting the creed and what it meant to him. His participation prepares him with leadership skills to be a productive member of the 21st century workforce. He is now also eligible to compete in the national conference this year.
