The Town of Southern Pines announced it had a discharge of untreated wastewater on Dec. 9 of an estimated 4,150 gallons along a sewer easement adjacent to Inverness Road. The untreated wastewater was discharged into an unnamed tributary of McDeeds Creek.
The Town Utilities Division was notified of the event at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. All efforts to mitigate wastewater release were taken. Repairs were completed, and the system returned to service at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 and cleanup/sanitizing efforts were conducted.
