Two people were transported to the hospital following a collision in Southern Pines on Sunday evening. The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 15-501 and Commerce Avenue and caused significant delays to evening traffic.
According to the Southern Pines Police Department, the driver of a Genesis SUV was headed toward Highway 15-501 on Commerce Avenue when and passed through the intersection at Turner Street. A Ford pickup truck came through the intersection and slammed into the passenger side of the SUV.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. No further details regarding the cause of the crash were released.
The driver and passenger of the SUV were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries.Â
At the time of the incident, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue was already responding to an earlier, unrelated crash at Indiana Avenue and Glenmoor Drive. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Southern Pines Fire & Rescue and Moore County EMS responded to the scene.
