Timeline on downtown roadwork

The Village of Pinehurst provided an update on the street resurfacing project in the downtown area. This work includes milling and paving streets in the heart of downtown: Market Square, Dogwood Road, Chinquapin Road, Cherokee Road, and Village Green Road West.

It’s important to note that this work will occur in segmented areas on any given day. For example, when work is being done on Market Square, work will not be occurring on Chinquapin or Cherokee. The milling and paving will occur on the same day for each road.

Timeline

Weather permitting, Turner Asphalt will begin work in the Village around Oct. 1 (a week later than the previously discussed date of Sept. 25 due to weather impacts on the previous contractor project). The paving work is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 13. Workers will generally be present from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. These dates may be affected by unforeseen circumstances, such as weather delays.

The Village anticipates the work to continue in this order: Market Square, Chinquapin Road, Cherokee Road (starting at the exit of the Villager Deli parking lot and extending to the crosswalk just passed the Given Book Shop/Roast Office), Village Green Road West (from N.C. 2 to front of the Holly Inn), and Dogwood Road.

Striping

After the milling and paving work is completed, the asphalt will be cured for about a week before adding the striping. The striping work will take place after the HollyArts Festival during the last week of October. They anticipate limited interruptions with the striping work and will provide more information in the coming weeks.

Road/Lane Closures

Currently, only one-way roads will close completely while work is ongoing; however, those closures will only be for one day. Those roads are Market Square and Cherokee (near the Roast Office). Only one lane will close with flaggers within the working area during the work on two-lane roads. They are expecting the sidewalks to remain open at all times.

Parking

The availability of on-street parking will be reduced when work is occurring. Areas will be coned off before work to limit vehicles in the work zone. The Village will display digital signage throughout downtown before the work to help remind visitors.
