Wreck in Eagle Springs sees one airlifted, highway closure

Shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday morning, first responders were called to the scene of a two-car wreck at the intersection of Old Barn Road and N.C. Highway 211 near the outskirts of Eagle Springs. Air care was called, and first responders quickly closed the road down.

According to officials on the scene, the driver of a Nissan passenger car was parked in an empty lot across the road from Old Barn Road. The driver then attempted to pull out and drive straight across 211 onto Old Barn Road.

In doing so, the driver pulled out in front of a Nissan passenger car traveling west on 211 towards Candor, according to officials. The Nissan was going around 60 mph before impacting with the Nissan, according to law enforcement.

Both vehicles spun around from the impact and came to rest just west of the intersection. One vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, causing 211 to be closed until the vehicle could be removed.

A landing zone for air care was set up in the parking lot of Sandhills Turf close to the scene, and the occupant of one vehicle was flown to a nearby trauma center due to their extensive injuries. Authorities did not confirm which vehicle the transported patient came from.
