A two-vehicle accident on Poplar Street in Aberdeen destroyed two separate power poles on Thanksgiving day. The accident occurred just south of the intersection with Peach Street at 2:30 p.m.
Aberdeen firefighters said they could hear the crash from the fire station, which is less than a 1/2 block away.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found a Jeep Renegade had struck a power pole shearing the pole from the ground. The Renegade suffered extensive damage.
A second vehicle, a Ford F150, was found further down the block with extensive damage. The truck had broken a different power pole in half. The damaged pole was lying across the front of the truck, and one end had crashed into the windshield.
The drivers of both vehicles were treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital. Their conditions are unknown but neither were thought to have life-threatening injuries.
Poplar Street was completely shut down while emergency crews worked and remained closed for an extended time due to the damage to the power lines.Â
The cause of the accident is under investigation by Aberdeen Police Department.
Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Aberdeen Police Department.
