An already busy afternoon for FirstHealth turned chaotic Tuesday when a van crashed into the entrance of its outpatient facility. The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. when a Honda Odyssey van at the front pickup/dropoff entrance drove between two barriers and crashed into the glass entryway.
The driver was taken to the emergency department for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. No one inside the building was injured.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further details were available at the time of this report.
FirstHealth maintenance employees were on site soon after the crash, assessing damages along with Allstate Glass Company. Rockwell Towing arrived to safely remove the vehicle.
A representative from FirstHealth told the Sandhills Sentinel that the entrance will remain closed until it is deemed structurally safe. The parking lot will remain open, but all patients and their family members are asked to enter the facility through the Reid Heart Center. Officials will be on-site to provide guidance if needed.
Responding to the scene were Pinehurst Fire Department, Pinehurst Police Department, and FirstHealth Company Police.
