UP student dies in car crash

A crash near Vass claimed the life of a Union Pines High School student on Tuesday.

Around 8 a.m., emergency personnel were called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover wreck in the 1400 block of Youngs Road.

According to officials, the driver, Ryan Tracy, 19, of Valley View Road in Southern Pines, was thrown 30 feet from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officials stated Tracy was traveling north on Youngs Road, heading toward U.S. 1. He then lost control in a sharp curve and ran off the road. The Honda Civic flipped several times before hitting a tree. Officials stated that the car appeared to be traveling too fast for the wet road conditions, but the investigation is still ongoing.
