Vehicle crashes into front yard of Cameron home

A single-vehicle crash in Cameron on Sunday evening severely injured a man and left a car nearly on its roof in the front yard of a home. The crash happened in the 900 block of U.S. Highway 1 Business, just south of N.C. Highway 24-27.

According to authorities on scene, a Dodge Challenger traveling south toward Vass crossed the center line and left the opposite side of the road. After the vehicle left the roadway, it struck a large root at the base of a tree, causing it to roll over onto its passenger side. It came to a stop head-on against a tree, nearly upside down.

The impact ripped a front wheel completely off the car, and the grille and headlights were thrown nearly across the other side of the yard from where the car came to rest.

A second rescue unit out of the Carthage Fire Department was initially called to assist due to the patient possibly being pinned inside the vehicle.
