The Village of Pinehurst will spend $1.85 million over the next five years to add to its already extensive network of sidewalks that connect the historic downtown district to outlying parks, schools and public facilities, like the recently completed community center. When completed, it will make the village more walkable for residents and connect neighborhoods together.
The expenditures were part of the Strategic Operating Plan presented by Village Manager Jeff Sanborn at a regular council meeting on April 14 that was conducted as a virtual meeting. Members of the public can watch the meeting live and see the recorded version by visiting the Village of Pinehurst website.
As part of the five-year plan, a new position will also be created, Transportation Planner, responsible for identifying the problems caused by vehicle traffic increases and recommending solutions. Included for long-range planning purposes are items such as Pedestrian Facilities, West Pinehurst Park Master Plan and Development, Village Place Streetscape Enhancements and Multimodal Transportation Planning.
In other business, the Village Council approved a resolution to authorize other boards to conduct electronic meetings and discussed the impact of COVID-19 on the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act.
